Let us help you get your story out.
A La Carte services are individual services which authors may sign up for. For services which are priced per word, the word count will be measured by the manuscript which is initially submitted to the editor.

Coaching and Advice
Have you decided that you’re going to write a book but you’re not sure where to get started? Or are you deep into your first draft and looking for help? Or do you have a finished manuscript and you’re wondering what the next step toward publication should be?
Sometimes an author just needs a coach to provide advice on how to move forward. At Cascadia we get this, and we’re very happy to offer coaching services both at the micro level for manuscript work, and at the macro level for book project management and navigating the publishing world. Our coaches are all professional authors who have been published both traditionally and independently, with years of experience putting together book projects and finding their way through the literary jungle.
Our standard coaching rate is $149/hour, or $125/hour with a pre-purchase of 5 hours or more.

EDITING AND GHOSTWRITING SERVICES
Manuscript evaluation – $499 (up to 100,000 words)
An evaluation includes a complete read-through of the manuscript by a professional editor followed by a detailed report on the strengths and weaknesses of the work, with examples to illustrate. The editor will make both general and specific recommendations on how to improve the manuscript in structural, stylistic and grammatical aspects.
If a manuscript is longer than 100,000 words when received by the editor, a charge of $5 per extra 1000 words will be added.
Content editing – 4.9 cents per word
Content editing focuses on the structure and style of a manuscript, and is intended to highlight the overall strengths and weaknesses of the presentation of the ideas in the work (not the ideas themselves). This service includes a complete, detailed read of the manuscript and editorial comments, mark-ups and suggestions at a concept level. The editor will be looking specifically at the logical flow of ideas/plot, the consistency of narrative voice and point-of-view, the relevance of secondary ideas/subplots/characters (depending on the genre of work) and the overall integration of the manuscript as a consistent, united work. The author may pose questions via email to the editor for up to two weeks after the content edit is completed.
Copy editing – 3.9 cents per word
Copy editing focuses exclusively on the spelling, grammar and word usage in the manuscript, and is intended to polish a work which is already considered to be structurally sound. This service includes a complete, detailed read of the manuscript and editorial comments, mark-ups and suggestions at a word-by-word level. The editor will be looking specifically for awkward phrasing, incorrect word usage, incorrect spelling and grammatical errors. The author may pose questions via email to the editor for up to two weeks after the copy edit is completed.
Proof reading – 2.5 cent per word
Proof reading is the final quality check of a manuscript after all editing is completed and before the book goes to typesetting. The proof reader will be looking specifically for any spelling or grammatical errors, consistency of formatting, and correct referencing of third-party material. The author may pose questions via email to the proof reader for up to one week after the proofing is completed.
Ghostwriting – (quoted on a project basis)
If your time is in short supply or writing simply isn’t your forte, a ghostwriter will ask you questions about the goals for your book, your knowledge and experiences you’d like conveyed on its pages and any stories or anecdotes that you’d like to incorporate into your book. They’ll then conduct their own research into your subject matter and finally produce a ready-to-publish manuscript on your behalf.

DESIGN SERVICES
Cover design – $499
All covers are custom designed for each individual book. The author is welcome to offer as much direction as desired toward cover design and the artist will create three initial concepts for the author to choose from. At least one concept will incorporate the author’s direction, and the artist may offer an alternative cover idea with at least one concept. The author will select one concept to be further developed into the cover, and after that concept has been developed and re-presented, the author has two additional opportunities to request changes. The final cover will be given to the author in print-ready, PDF format.
Typesetting – $399
Typesetting is the creation of the interior of the book, and includes the proper layout of text, titles and subtitles, the insertion of basic images, chapter headings, title pages and “opening pages” such as copyright, dedication, author’s note, etc. The artist will see the cover design and will create three sample interiors, including chapter headings and standard text pages, for the author to consider. The author will select one sample, and after that sample has been developed and re-presented, the author has two additional opportunities to request changes. The final interior will be given to the author in print-ready, PDF format.
Ebook conversion – $199
To be sold as an ebook, a completed book needs to be converted into both ePub and mobi files in order to be read on any e-reader. The conversion process includes the complete interior and the front cover of the book, and the converted files are thoroughly checked for formatting errors which may have been created in the conversion. All files are tested on live e-readers as part of the quality control. The author will be given the ebook in both ePub and mobi formats, and may request one set of corrections for any errors.
