A La Carte services are individual services which authors may sign up for. For services which are priced per word, the word count will be measured by the manuscript which is initially submitted to the editor.

COACHING AND ADVICE
Have you decided that you’re going to write a book but you’re not sure where to get started? Or are you deep into your first draft and looking for help? Or do you have a finished manuscript and you’re wondering what the next step toward publication should be?
Sometimes an author just needs a coach to provide advice on how to move forward. At Cascadia we get this, and we’re very happy to offer coaching services both at the micro level for manuscript work, and at the macro level for book project management and navigating the publishing world. Our coaches are all professional authors who have been published both traditionally and independently, with years of experience putting together book projects and finding their way through the literary jungle.
Our standard coaching rate is $149/hour, or $125/hour with a pre-purchase of 5 hours or more.

EDITING AND GHOSTWRITING SERVICES
Manuscript evaluation – $499 (up to 100,000 words)
An evaluation includes a complete read-through of the manuscript by a professional editor followed by a detailed report on the strengths and weaknesses of the work, with examples to illustrate. The editor will make both general and specific recommendations on how to improve the manuscript in structural, stylistic and grammatical aspects.
If a manuscript is longer than 100,000 words when received by the editor, a charge of $5 per extra 1000 words will be added.
Content editing – 4.9 cents per word
Content editing focuses on the structure and style of a manuscript, and is intended to highlight the overall strengths and weaknesses of the presentation of the ideas in the work (not the ideas themselves). This service includes a complete, detailed read of the manuscript and editorial comments, mark-ups and suggestions at a concept level. The editor will be looking specifically at the logical flow of ideas/plot, the consistency of narrative voice and point-of-view, the relevance of secondary ideas/subplots/characters (depending on the genre of work) and the overall integration of the manuscript as a consistent, united work. You may pose questions via email to the editor for up to two weeks after the content edit is completed.
Stylistic / Line editing – 3.9 cents per word
Stylistic editing focuses flow and style of the book to ensure your meaning is presented in the most effective way. It also addresses spelling, grammar and word usage in the manuscript, and is intended to bring to life a work which is already considered structurally sound. This service includes a complete, detailed read of the manuscript and editorial comments, mark-ups and suggestions at a word-by-word level. The editor will be looking specifically for awkward phrasing, incorrect word usage, incorrect spelling and grammatical errors. You may pose questions via email to the editor for up to two weeks after the copy edit is completed.
Copy editing – 2.5 cent per word
Copy editing (also sometimes called proofreading) is the final quality check of a manuscript after all editing is completed and before the book goes to typesetting. The editor will be looking specifically for any spelling or grammatical errors, consistency of formatting, and correct referencing of third-party material. You may pose questions via email to the editor for up to one week after the edit is completed.
Ghostwriting – (quoted on a project basis)
If your time is in short supply or writing simply isn’t your forte, a ghostwriter will ask you questions about the goals for your book, your knowledge and experiences you’d like conveyed on its pages and any stories or anecdotes that you’d like to incorporate into your book. They’ll then conduct their own research into your subject matter and finally produce a ready-to-publish manuscript on your behalf.

DESIGN SERVICES
Cover design – $499
Cover design is the process of creating the all-important cover that serves as the book’s first impression. All covers are custom designed for each individual book. You’re welcome to offer as much direction as desired toward cover design and the artist will create three initial concepts for you to choose from. At least one concept will incorporate your direction, and the artist may offer an alternative cover idea with at least one concept. You’ll select one concept to be further developed into the cover, and after that concept has been developed and re-presented, you have two additional opportunities to request changes. The final cover will be given to you in print-ready, PDF format.
Typesetting – $399
Typesetting is the creation of the interior of the book, and includes the proper layout of text, titles and subtitles, the insertion of basic images, chapter headings, title pages and “opening pages” such as copyright, dedication, author’s note, etc. The artist will see the cover design and will create three sample interiors, including chapter headings and standard text pages, for you to consider. You’ll select one sample, and after that sample has been developed and re-presented, you have two additional opportunities to request changes. The final interior will be given to you in print-ready, PDF format.
Ebook conversion – $199
To be sold as an ebook, a completed book needs to be converted into both ePub and mobi files in order to be read on any e-reader. The conversion process includes the complete interior and the front cover of the book, and the converted files are thoroughly checked for formatting errors which may have been created in the conversion. All files are tested on live e-readers as part of the quality control. You’ll be given the ebook in both ePub and mobi formats, and may request one set of corrections for any errors.

Website design/development
A website is a critical part of any book marketing effort – it’s the one piece of online real estate which you fully own and control. It’s also the centerpiece of your marketing efforts, and therefore it can take many forms based on how you approach your marketing. At Cascadia we recommend keeping things as simple as possible and we’ve created a website concept for the fundamentals upon which you can build.
The fundamental website – $899
Sometimes all you need is a basic website to act as the center of your book marketing campaign. Our experts work with you directly to create a simple, functional site that is set up just for you. The basic site includes:
- Home page
- About page
- Book page
- Blog page
- Contact page
Please note that for any website there will be a few set-up and maintenance costs outside of your relationship with Cascadia, such as hosting, domain and annual maintenance fees. You may have already sorted this out, but if not we’re happy to recommend specialized service providers and get you connected to them.
Custom website options
Depending on your marketing approach you may want to include extra features like scheduling or e-commerce tools. Our team can certainly make this happen for you – just let us know what you need and we can provide a custom quote.
Premium Marketing Consulting – $99/hour
Book marketing is tough, and there’s no magic formula or secret trick which will guarantee an author success. Because of this, Cascadia doesn’t offer any sort of “set-piece” marketing package for authors. But we’ve been in this business for a long time and we do talk to a lot of authors about their experiences, so if you’d just like some help learning the basics of book marketing, we’re happy to give advice and training specifically tailored to what you want to know. Need help setting up your social media accounts? Want advice on how/whether to give your book away for free? Whatever you need, we’ll share our accumulated knowledge with you.

PRINTING SERVICES
Cascadia has negotiated some great rates with a variety of printers across North America and we’re happy to pass on those savings to you. Each custom print job is unique, based on page count, format size, colour and any special requirements, so we can provide a competitive quote for any of your book printing needs.
